Stopped by the Bass Pro Shops to pick up a new rod. Have high hopes of going fly fishing once or twice this summer, to get back some of the skill before Labor Day. We’ll be in Jackson Hole again to camp and fish and drink beer all weekend.
Came across a nice little propane grill by Coleman. It has folding legs on wheels, good double burners and built in thermostat, and a nice large cooking surface area. Only a little over $100 and I couldn’t resist. Brought it home with me and I’ll be grilling a steak on it tomorrow, to break it in.
Did you know:
- Cereal was invented when colonial housewives started serving up popcorn with sugar and cream for breakfast.
- The average American eats 160 bowls of cereal each year.
- The first ready-to-eat breakfast cereal was invented in 1863 by James C. Jackson. It was a form of whole grain flour dough baked into dry leaves, broken into chunks and baked again, and then ground into still smaller chunks.
- Breakfast cereal is the third most popular item sold in grocery stores after carbonated beverages and milk.
These facts are from the American Cereal Council’s website.
I try to eat a bowl of cereal with fruit at least 3 or 4 times a week. I’m not a big fan of pancakes or waffles, but I do love a big Sunday brunch.
This morning I had a breakfast burrito from Sonic, but that is a rare treat. How about you? Leave me a comment and share what you had for breakfast this morning.
The best delivery pizza in my neighborhood is Papa John’s. They do a good job on the crust, the sauce and the toppings. I like some of their specials, like the Tuscan Meats.

I have an online account with Papa John’s so that I can order my pizza online and it’s at my door in 30 minutes without having to call, be put on hold, and have to yell at an order taker who can hear you or can’t speak English. Avoid all that by setting up an online account and setting up 3 or 4 favorite orders.
Even better, my Papa John’s now takes order by text message. If you have an online account with favorites, you can text your favorite order to Papa John’s while you are on your way home and sitting in traffic, by the time you get home your fresh hot pizza will be at your door minutes after you arrive!
Had a mild weather evening so I fired up the Weber and put a couple of Mahi Mahi fish steaks on the grill. I kept the seasonings simple, with a spray of extra virgin olive oil, some freshly ground sea salt, and a splash of fresh lime.
While the fish was grilling I wilted some thinly sliced red cabbage and mashed a fresh avacado into a quarter cup of sour cream. Put it all together into a soft tortilla and you have a great fish taco.
I can’t take all the credit for this - I had the TV on while I was working on my laptop and I heard the Rachel Ray show. I got the basic recipe from that show - I’m sure she has a web site and a recipe bank. If you want the details, check it out. I winged it from memory and they turned out great.
Had dinner at my favorite steakhouse, Longhorn, and noticed on the drink specials a cocktail called Mojito. It’s a rum based drink, with a lime and mint mix. Very smooth. Very easy to drink.
The bartender stirred several springs of fresh mint into the glass. It was an interesting way to infuse the drink with the mild mint flavor. Adds a lot of texture and color to the tall and narrow glass.
If you like white rum, try this drink with a good brand of Jamaican rum for a nice and smooth drink.
