A great charity organization that deserves your consideration is the Arbor Day Foundation. It is all about helping the environment, plants trees, and sharing information about trees with the public.
Their website is a treasure trove of information, with resources for educators and parents, a tree guide and tree care tips. There are free activities for all age groups and a special offer of 10 free trees (your choice of types from a nicely populated list) with a six month membership of only $10 or a one year membership of $15.
Had a mild weather evening so I fired up the Weber and put a couple of Mahi Mahi fish steaks on the grill. I kept the seasonings simple, with a spray of extra virgin olive oil, some freshly ground sea salt, and a splash of fresh lime.
While the fish was grilling I wilted some thinly sliced red cabbage and mashed a fresh avacado into a quarter cup of sour cream. Put it all together into a soft tortilla and you have a great fish taco.
I can’t take all the credit for this - I had the TV on while I was working on my laptop and I heard the Rachel Ray show. I got the basic recipe from that show - I’m sure she has a web site and a recipe bank. If you want the details, check it out. I winged it from memory and they turned out great.
When I was 9, my dad took me out to our country home for a special excursion with just the two of us. It was great going with him and leaving my mom and two sisters at home.
We just spent the afternoon out there together but it was one of those times I’ll never forget. He taught me how to shoot.
We gathered up a basketful of tin cans from the garbage pit and set them on some rocks on a hill to use as targets. I fired a .38 and also a .22 and it was an awesome, empowering feeling. I liked the handgun, but I really liked the rifle. It was so easy to aim it and the kick wasn’t bad at all.
Later on I learned how to handle a shotgun. but I’ll always favor the .22 and I still have the one my Dad gave me those many years ago. Someone stole my .38, so I replaced that with a .45 and now that I’m thinking about it, I want to go ahead and pick up another .38.

Had dinner at my favorite steakhouse, Longhorn, and noticed on the drink specials a cocktail called Mojito. It’s a rum based drink, with a lime and mint mix. Very smooth. Very easy to drink.
The bartender stirred several springs of fresh mint into the glass. It was an interesting way to infuse the drink with the mild mint flavor. Adds a lot of texture and color to the tall and narrow glass.
If you like white rum, try this drink with a good brand of Jamaican rum for a nice and smooth drink.
I am tired of waiting for the writer strike to be negotiated, and I am tired of all the crappy reality shows on the boob tube. It’s time for America to create their own shows. Let’s have more people creating positive news and sharing via “you tube” and personal blogs. Let’s create our own new TV shows and make the world a better place without all these corporate issues.
